Our project, The Outlook, in the Eastlake neighborhood of Seattle Washington won bronze in the Urban Infill category for the Professional Builder Magazine Design Awards. Designed by Build Urban resident designer, Alyse Zimmer, this single family home is an understatement in cool. The multi-story, open design boasts views spanning across downtown Seattle and Lake Union, while the floor-to-ceiling windows and clean, sleek lines work as a pristine, contemporary frame for the cityscape.

At Build Urban we strive to remain on the cutting edge of modern design by balancing the use of Eco-friendly, sustainable materials, with the aesthetic integrity of the urban polity. To achieve this, Build Urban has curated a team of individuals passionate about their discipline in the design/build world. From designers, to purchasing, to construction, Build Urban has over 150 years of experience under our belt, culminating in a conglomerate of ideas and a wealth of experience. As we are an in-house company, our process is fluid as a design is pushed from its CAD file nest, on to the bunny slope of purchasing, and then takes off soaring in construction. Working in close proximity, with the consistency of having the same team of professionals project to project, has allowed us to establish a system of reflection on our work and processes that moves us to be better builders and bolder designers.

The aforementioned Eco-friendly, sustainable material wasn’t just lip service. We build all our homes to 4 or 5 star Built Green status, meaning we use environmentally responsible materials on our homes and host a diligent standard of energy-conservative building practices.  In common tongues, we love Seattle! The Space Needle beacon, the evergreen embroidery, blue water freckles, even the ubiquity of the 50 shades of grey uni-cloud. Preserving the essence of Seattle and urban freshness is of utmost importance to us. We look to our surroundings for inspiration and with all due respect, building our homes in a conscientious manner that honors the environment and reflects the natural beauty of the city, is the least we can do.

The Outlook is a 4 star Built Green home with a walk score of 86. An award winning, custom designed home, only a 10 minute walk to Lake Union, with expansive views of the city, Capitol Hill in your backyard, AND environmentally friendly?! It has been rumored the Greek philosopher, Epicurus, was referring to a  Build Urban home when he said “Stranger, here you will do well to tarry, here our highest good is pleasure.” the world may never know, but it sounds about right to us.
